One person is dead following a multi-vehicle crash that occurred in Boyle County, Kentucky, on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Kentucky State Police (KSP), troopers from the Richmond Post were contacted shortly before 1:00 p.m. regarding a serious collision at the intersection of U.S. Highway 127 and Knob Lick Road. The initial investigation conducted by KSP indicates that the crash was triggered when a Ford Explorer, driven by 81-year-old Frederick Cummings of Junction City, failed to yield at a stop sign.

Police report that Cummings was traveling eastbound on West Knob Lick Road when he disregarded a stop sign and entered the intersection without yielding to oncoming traffic. As a result, his Ford Explorer collided with a Ford F-250 pickup truck that was traveling south on US-127. The impact of the crash caused significant damage to both vehicles and sent the F-250 hurtling into the path of a northbound Chevy Impala.

The chain reaction continued as the Impala, after colliding with the F-250, struck a Ram 2500 truck. The Ram had been stopped at a stop sign on East Knob Lick Road and was not in motion at the time of the collision.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene to assess the situation and provide medical assistance. Despite their efforts, Frederick Cummings was pronounced dead at the scene by the Boyle County Coroner’s Office. Authorities have not yet released further information about Cummings, including whether any health issues may have contributed to the crash.

The driver of the Chevy Impala sustained injuries in the crash but was reported to be in stable condition. That individual was transported to a hospital in nearby Danville for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported among the drivers of the other vehicles involved.

Officials have not yet disclosed the identities of the other drivers involved in the incident. The Kentucky State Police have stated that the investigation is ongoing, and further details may be released as they become available. Troopers are working to determine whether speed, impairment, or any mechanical failure may have played a role in the collision.

The crash caused traffic delays in the area as the scene was cleared and investigators documented evidence. Drivers were urged to use caution and seek alternate routes while authorities completed their work.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of obeying traffic control devices and remaining attentive behind the wheel. As the investigation continues, KSP encourages anyone with information related to the crash to come forward and assist with their inquiries.
