The Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) has identified Alfaro Auner as the victim in a fatal shooting that occurred on Sunday, July 27, in the Tomball area. HCSO Homicide detectives have since arrested 51-year-old Baldomero Ortiz, who has been charged in connection with Auner’s death.

Authorities report that Ortiz, a relative of Auner, was involved in a personal dispute with the victim prior to the shooting. The exact details of the altercation remain under investigation, but officials believe the disagreement escalated, leading Ortiz to open fire.

Members of the HCSO Violent Crimes Apprehension Unit tracked down Ortiz later that same evening and took him into custody without further incident. According to the sheriff’s office, Ortiz confessed to the shooting and also admitted to accidentally shooting himself in the leg during the confrontation.

Ortiz is currently being treated for his injury at a local hospital. Once medically cleared, he will be transferred to the Harris County Jail, where he will be formally processed and charged with murder.

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to determine the full circumstances leading up to the fatal encounter. Authorities have not disclosed whether any additional charges are expected or if other individuals were involved.

Anyone with further information related to the case is encouraged to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Division or Crime Stoppers to assist in the investigation.
