Authorities have identified the woman whose body was discovered in downtown La Porte on Friday afternoon as 30-year-old Jessica Foster, a resident of La Porte.
According to the La Porte County Coroner’s Office, Foster’s body was found outside an office building located near the intersection of Lincolnway and Jackson Street. Police say she was discovered between the building’s front entrance and nearby shrubbery—a location that drew the attention of passersby and prompted a 911 call.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene shortly after 1 p.m., and Foster was pronounced dead at the scene.
La Porte County Coroner Lynn Swanson confirmed on Monday that the cause of death has not yet been determined and remains under investigation. An autopsy has been scheduled, and officials are awaiting the results of toxicology tests to help establish how and why Foster died.
Authorities have not indicated whether foul play is suspected, but the investigation remains active. The La Porte Police Department is urging anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual in the area during the hours leading up to the discovery to come forward.
Jessica Foster’s family has been notified. As the community awaits more answers, condolences have begun pouring in from friends and neighbors who described her as kindhearted and soft-spoken.
Additional information will be released by authorities as the investigation progresses.
