A chaotic scene unfolded Monday morning at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno after a gunman opened fire outside the casino, leaving multiple people injured, according to Reno police. The suspect has since been taken into custody and is receiving treatment at a local hospital.

The shooting occurred around 7:30 a.m. in the valet area of the casino, prompting a massive emergency response that included Reno Police, Washoe County Sheriff’s deputies, and multiple ambulances. Authorities have confirmed that an officer was involved in the shooting, though it remains unclear whether the suspect was shot during the confrontation.

The conditions of the victims have not yet been released, and officials have not provided a specific number of those injured. Police continue to urge the public to avoid the area as the investigation remains active.

The Grand Sierra Resort, located just blocks from the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, is one of the city’s most prominent landmarks, boasting the largest casino floor in northern Nevada and nearly 2,000 hotel rooms.

City Council member Devon Reese issued a statement following the incident:

“My heart breaks for the victims, their families, and our entire community. Reno is strong – but we are not immune to the epidemic of gun violence gripping this nation.”

Authorities have not yet released a motive, and further details are expected as the investigation progresses. Anyone with information is urged to contact Reno Police.
