A 36-year-old woman, Thanh Thi Yen To, was tragically killed in a brutal stabbing early Saturday morning in northwest Oklahoma City. The incident has left the community reeling and raised concerns about the influence of hallucinogenic drugs in violent behavior.
Just after 1:00 a.m., officers with the Oklahoma City Police Department responded to a residence near North Roff Avenue and NW 50th Street after receiving a chilling 911 call. On the line was 36-year-old Kyle Guthrie, who admitted to stabbing his girlfriend.
When officers arrived, they found To with multiple stab wounds inside the home. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Guthrie was taken into custody without incident and is currently being held at the Oklahoma County Detention Center on a first-degree murder complaint.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Guthrie told investigators that both he and To had ingested psychedelic mushrooms prior to the attack. He admitted to stabbing her multiple times, though a clear motive for the violence has not yet been established. Authorities are exploring whether the hallucinogenic substances contributed to his mental state during the incident.
Police have not disclosed details about the couple’s relationship history or whether there was any previous record of domestic violence. It remains unknown if anyone else was present in the home at the time of the fatal stabbing.
The case is still in its early stages, with detectives continuing to gather evidence, witness statements, and toxicology reports to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the incident. The tragic killing has added to the growing number of domestic-related homicides in the city this year.
Neighbors expressed shock and sorrow, saying the quiet street had never experienced such a violent event before. No additional details have been released regarding funeral arrangements or To’s surviving family members.
Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Oklahoma City Police Department Homicide Tip Line at 405-297-1200.
As the investigation continues, advocates are once again highlighting the dangers of substance abuse and the importance of recognizing the warning signs of domestic violence.
