Authorities have identified the man who was fatally struck by a garbage truck in the early hours of Tuesday morning as Travis Weams, 48.
The tragic incident occurred along Airline Highway, near the state fairgrounds, prompting an immediate emergency response and the closure of the southbound lanes. According to officials, the accident took place sometime before dawn, and traffic was redirected for several hours as investigators processed the scene.
Personnel from the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, St. George Fire Department, and Louisiana State Police all responded to the scene. The roadway remained closed between Industriplex Boulevard and Manchac Park Lane until approximately 9 a.m., when it was reopened to traffic.
