With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Derek Bellanger, a beloved member of Minneapolis, MN community and a true warrior for the people. Derek was a proud and devoted member of Many Shields a protector, a father, a friend, and a constant presence of strength and compassion.
Derek’s life was rooted in service, tradition, and love. He stood tall for his people, always ready to lend his strength where it was needed most. His kindness, courage, and unwavering loyalty will never be forgotten.
To honor Derek’s memory, a Spirit Fire is being kept by his Many Shields family at the old sweat lodge site behind Wakiagun. All are welcome to visit this sacred space — to bring medicines, offer tobacco, and share prayers as Derek begins his journey to the forever hunting grounds.
