The Millard County Sheriff’s Office has identified the three individuals found dead in a tragic incident that unfolded on July 24 in the small rural community of Flowell. The victims are 28-year-old Jay Dean Stevens, his 67-year-old grandmother, Colleen F. Halsey, and his 23-month-old daughter, Harper Helena Stevens.
According to an official statement, both Stevens and Halsey died of apparent gunshot wounds. A firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered at the scene. Preliminary evidence suggests that Jay Stevens shot and killed his grandmother before taking his own life in what authorities are investigating as a murder-suicide.
The exact cause of Harper’s death has not yet been determined. An autopsy is pending to help clarify whether her death was connected to the gun violence or resulted from another cause.
