The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of a fatal crash that occurred Tuesday as 35-year-old Jacob Offerman.
According to authorities, the crash happened near the intersection of State Road 65 and Estate Drive. Offerman was driving a northbound SUV when, for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle crossed the median and entered the southbound lanes. There, it collided head-on with another vehicle.
Offerman sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died. The driver of the second vehicle also suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Their current condition has not been released.
The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into the circumstances of the crash. Officials have not yet determined what caused Offerman’s vehicle to veer into oncoming traffic. Investigators are examining possible contributing factors such as speed, mechanical failure, distraction, or impairment, though no conclusions have been reached at this time.
The crash caused extensive damage to both vehicles and prompted a heavy emergency response. State Road 65 was temporarily shut down while first responders worked to assist the victims and clear the scene.
Jacob Offerman’s death marks a tragic loss for the community. As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has relevant information to come forward.
No further details have been released. The Sheriff’s Office is expected to provide updates as more information becomes available.
