A tragic crash on Lakeshore Drive claimed the life of 40-year-old motorcyclist Nathan Thorsen on Tuesday afternoon. The Muskegon Police Department responded to the scene just after 12:30 p.m. near Robinson Street following reports of a serious collision between a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that Thorsen had been fatally injured in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have confirmed that he was a Muskegon resident, although further details about him have not yet been released publicly.
Eyewitness Mark Flermoen, a local business owner, recounted the disturbing scene.
“I was in our building in Lakeside when I heard the crash. A girl sitting outside said the motorcyclist swerved around a couple of vehicles. When I got to the scene, I saw the victim on the ground and the car on fire down the hill,” Flermoen told 13 ON YOUR SIDE.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash is a 33-year-old man from Muskegon. He was arrested on the scene, with investigators citing speed as a likely factor in the deadly incident.
“This is something that should never have happened,” said Flermoen. “It doesn’t matter if I knew him or not—he’s gone. His family lost him for no reason.” He also voiced growing concern over reckless driving and the lack of effective measures to curb speeding in the area. “My concern has always been that someone was going to get killed. Now it’s happened.”
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and ask anyone with information to come forward. Those with tips can contact the Muskegon Police Department at 231-724-6750 or reach out to Silent Observer at 231-722-7463.
