A tragic incident unfolded Tuesday afternoon when a 13-year-old girl was fatally shot at the Ridgeline at Canton Apartments, formerly known as the Crossings of Canton. The heartbreaking event has shaken the community, prompting an outpouring of grief and urgent calls for information.
According to a statement released by the Canton Police Department, the 911 dispatch center received a call at approximately 12:24 p.m. reporting a shooting at the apartment complex located near Joy Road and Honeytree Blvd. Officers and emergency responders arrived within minutes and immediately began life-saving efforts. Despite their best attempts, the young victim succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that a person of interest is in custody, and they believe there is no ongoing threat to the public. Officers remained at the scene into the evening, collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses. The area has been closed off and will remain so until further notice.
