With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Bjorn Dragsbaek, a beloved husband, father, mentor, and cornerstone of the Franklin Youth Soccer Association (FYSA).

Bjorn’s sudden departure has left a void not only in the hearts of those closest to him but throughout the entire community of Franklin, Massachusetts, where he dedicated decades of service, passion, and purpose to uplifting young athletes and strengthening the foundation of youth sports.

Born and raised in Sherborn, Massachusetts, Bjorn was a proud graduate of Dover-Sherborn High School and went on to study at Roger Williams University. He later settled in Franklin, where he built a beautiful life with his wife, Lynda, and their three children—Jamie, Laney, and Bryce.

Bjorn also worked professionally at T-Mobile, where he was known for his integrity, work ethic, and team spirit—qualities that extended far beyond his professional life.

Bjorn’s greatest impact, however, was felt on the fields of Franklin, where he became a guiding force in the local soccer community. As a longtime coach, board member, president, and referee for the FYSA, Bjorn embodied what it means to lead with both vision and compassion.

He was a man who led by example—steadfast, principled, and unwavering in his commitment to creating a positive, inclusive, and empowering experience for every child who laced up their cleats.

As a coach, Bjorn didn’t just focus on drills or scores. His focus was on building character, confidence, and camaraderie. He saw potential in every player, encouraging them to grow not only as athletes but as individuals.

Whether a child was just starting out or playing in their final youth season, Bjorn made them feel seen, valued, and supported. His contributions as a referee and mentor were equally powerful. Bjorn approached officiating not just as a job, but as a teaching opportunity.

He believed in growing the game through fairness, clarity, and respect, using each match as a chance to instill life lessons in sportsmanship and accountability. He was especially dedicated to supporting young referees, many of whom cite Bjorn as the reason they found confidence and purpose in officiating.

He was always available for guidance—whether it was answering a quick question, showing up early to help, or staying late to debrief a tough call. Bjorn’s service on the FYSA Board was marked by thoughtful leadership and an unwavering dedication to making soccer accessible, equitable, and fun for all.

His influence was felt in every initiative he championed, every policy he helped shape, and every hour he gave selflessly to the organization and its families. He was the kind of leader who didn’t seek recognition but earned the deep respect of everyone around him through quiet consistency and genuine care.

More than anything, Bjorn was a family man. He adored his wife, Lynda, and their children, who were his greatest pride and joy. His legacy lives on through them, and through every life he touched on and off the field.

He leaves behind a community better because of him—one that will carry his spirit forward in every game played, every whistle blown, and every child who finds joy and purpose through soccer.

As we mourn this heartbreaking loss, we extend our deepest sympathies to the Dragsbaek family. Details regarding services and ways to support the family will be shared in the days to come.

In the meantime, we remember Bjorn as a beacon of kindness, strength, and unwavering commitment to community. His presence will be missed, but his legacy will never be forgotten.
