Authorities have identified the man found dead in the Ohio River earlier this week as 66-year-old Jon Fehrenbacher.
According to the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office, Fehrenbacher’s body was discovered Thursday near the Dogtown Boat Ramp, located at 5500 Old Henderson Road in the Ohio River bottoms.
Chief Deputy Coroner Amy Miller said in a statement that autopsy results are still pending but noted there is currently no indication of foul play.
Search efforts began around 5 p.m. on Wednesday after a 911 call reported an unmanned boat floating in the river. Responders later found Fehrenbacher’s wallet and cellphone inside the vessel, but he was not on board.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office. As of Friday, officials had not released details on how Fehrenbacher may have entered the water.
Sheriff Noah Robinson referred all questions regarding the case to the Department of Natural Resources.
