A heartbroken mother is mourning the unimaginable loss of her 4-year-old twin sons, Lathan and Langston, who died in a house fire in Hermitage on Monday.

Described as resilient, joyful, and intelligent, the twins were micro-preemie survivors who had already overcome numerous health battles in their young lives. Their mother, who spoke to FOX 17 News, shared that Lathan and Langston were the happiest and strongest children she had ever known — and ever would know. They were, she said, the light of her life.

The fire broke out Monday morning, and while the mother and her youngest child were able to escape the flames, the twins tragically did not make it out.

The Nashville Fire Department (NFD), along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), is actively investigating the cause of the fire. NFD Public Information Officer Kendra Looney confirmed that the home’s sprinkler system was functioning, but the rear portion of the residence suffered significant damage due to the intensity of the flames.

In the wake of the tragedy, a family friend has organized a GoFundMe campaign to support the grieving family and help them begin the long process of healing and recovery. The fundraiser has already raised over $19,000.

The community continues to rally around the family as they endure this devastating loss.
