Law enforcement agencies are actively searching for two suspects who fled on foot following a vehicle crash during a police pursuit in Webster, Massachusetts.
The incident occurred Thursday afternoon on Route 16, in the vicinity of Big Belly’s BBQ, prompting a significant police presence and an urgent request for public assistance.
According to authorities, the chase began when officers attempted to stop a vehicle connected to a recent shooting in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. One of the individuals inside the vehicle is a known suspect in that investigation.
The vehicle, reportedly traveling at high speed, entered the town of Webster before losing control and crashing along Route 16. Shortly after the crash, two individuals fled the scene on foot, disappearing into nearby neighborhoods and wooded areas.
Multiple police agencies—including local departments, state police, and K9 units—quickly mobilized to establish a perimeter and begin a coordinated search. Helicopters were also seen circling overhead as part of the search effort.
Authorities have not yet released the names or physical descriptions of the suspects, though they have confirmed that one of the two men is wanted in connection with a recent shooting in Woonsocket, making the apprehension a top priority.
The other individual’s identity and role remain under investigation. As of Thursday evening, the suspects remain at large, and law enforcement officials are urging residents in the Route 16 and Big Belly BBQ area to remain vigilant.
Homeowners are being asked to lock their doors, secure vehicles, and report any suspicious activity immediately. Police also recommend checking doorbell or home surveillance cameras in case the suspects were captured fleeing or hiding on private property.
Residents have been asked not to approach or confront the suspects if seen, as they may be dangerous and possibly armed. A reverse 911 notification has been sent out to homes in the affected area, and updates are expected as the manhunt continues.
The crash and subsequent foot chase disrupted traffic on Route 16 for several hours, with police taping off sections of the road and redirecting vehicles as they combed the area. Several local businesses temporarily closed or limited operations as a precaution.
In a brief statement, Webster Police emphasized their commitment to public safety and their cooperation with Rhode Island authorities. “We are coordinating closely with multiple agencies to ensure these individuals are apprehended as quickly and safely as possible,” said a department spokesperson.
This latest incident has heightened concerns among residents about rising violent crime in the region and the growing need for inter-agency collaboration across state lines.
As the search continues, anyone with information or who may have seen something suspicious is encouraged to call the Webster Police Department or submit tips through their anonymous hotline.
