Family members and loved ones have confirmed the identities of the two children killed in Tuesday’s explosion at the Horizon Biofuels plant in Fremont, Nebraska. The victims have been identified as Hayven, 12, and Fayeah, 8. The sisters died alongside their father, Dylan Danielson, 32, in what authorities are calling an accidental explosion caused by a dust fire.

Danielson’s body was recovered Wednesday, approximately 24 hours after the explosion. The bodies of his two daughters were found at the site later that same night.

Loved ones are remembering the girls for their bright spirits and joyful energy. Fayeah was described as having a smile that could “brighten even the darkest days,” while Hayven is remembered as “a bright ray of sunshine who gained her angel wings too soon.”

The Wahoo Public Schools community, where the family had connections, has expressed grief and support for those affected.

“This is a horrible tragedy, and our hearts go out to the family during this incredibly difficult time,” said Superintendent Brandon Lavaley.

The Wahoo Kids Wrestling Club also issued a heartfelt message via social media, stating:

“We extend our deepest condolences to Hayven’s family, friends, and teammates during this incredibly difficult time.”

Investigation and Safety Concerns

The Nebraska Fire Marshal Agency has completed its initial investigation into the cause of the explosion, which began with a dust fire inside the facility. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has launched its own investigation into the incident.

Records show that Horizon Biofuels has a prior history of safety violations. In 2012, OSHA cited the company for four “serious” infractions, including insufficient employee training, poor communication of workplace hazards, and inadequate machine maintenance.

Earlier this year, the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy investigated an air quality complaint at the plant. The department found wood dust had extended beyond the property line, raising environmental and safety concerns.

In response to the explosion, the Dodge County Board of Supervisors declared a disaster on Wednesday and has formally requested state assistance.

About Horizon Biofuels

Horizon Biofuels operates under the brand Elkhorn Valley Animal Bedding and produces wood pellets and animal bedding materials. It is one of three commercial pellet plants in Nebraska, with a capacity to produce 20,000 short tons of wood pellets annually using waste wood. According to the Nebraska Manufacturing Extension Partnership, the company employs 10 people.

The incident has left the Fremont and Wahoo communities in shock, with residents mourning the loss of a young family and calling for greater accountability regarding industrial safety protocols.

Authorities continue to gather details as investigations progress. Further updates will be shared as information becomes available.
