Authorities have identified 19-year-old Zane Huges of Colington as the individual fatally shot Thursday at Avalon Pier in the Outer Banks, according to reports from WITN.
The shooting occurred in the parking lot of the popular fishing pier, leaving Huges with fatal injuries. A second victim, a 15-year-old boy, sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. He was airlifted to a hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, and has since returned to the pier to continue fishing.
Kill Devil Hills police have charged 16-year-old Henry Hargis in connection with the incident. Hargis now faces charges of first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon. He is currently being held without bond at the Pitt Regional Juvenile Detention Center.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the circumstances that led to the tragic shooting.
