Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal crash that occurred early Thursday morning in Winona County as Lois Davis, 72, of Winona.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the tragic incident began around 4:40 a.m. when Davis was driving eastbound on County Road 7 and lost control of her vehicle, which ended up in a ditch after crossing Highway 61. Davis exited her vehicle and began walking across the southbound lanes of Highway 61 when she was struck by a vehicle.

After the initial collision, the driver stopped—only for Davis to be hit a second time by another oncoming vehicle, according to Sgt. Troy Christianson of the State Patrol.

Davis was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

The southbound lanes of Highway 61 were closed for several hours as investigators processed the scene. Officials have not released details about the drivers involved, and it is not yet known if any charges will be filed.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation, and authorities are working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
